Montevideo, a short hop across the river (longer for those of us who suffer from sea- or bus-sickness) presents a marvel of architectural order.
It seems that in Montevideo they've passed an 'aesthetic balance' by-law, which states that each beautiful, elegant, period-styled building constructed must be accompanied by a dreadfully ugly edifice, which is erected directly opposite.
Basically each monumental building must have an ugly sister, as horrid as the monument is beautiful.
